Dress Code

Your school uniform confirms your attendance at Sacred Heart School and is a symbol of unity within the school community.  It minimizes distractions in the learning process.  It is important that you take pride in your appearance by wearing your complete uniform always remembering that by wearing it inside and outside the classroom and the school you are representing the school and your behavior should be a credit to both yourself and the school community.

  1. All students are required to wear a complete uniform at all times.
  2. A student who comes to school in an incomplete uniform is expected to present a letter written and signed by the parent stating the reason for the uniform infraction.
  3. Girls should wear knee-length skirts and knee-high socks as part of the dress uniform.
  4. Blouses and shirts are to be worn inside skirts and trousers.
  5. Only the official Sacred Heart School Uniform may be worn during the school day unless otherwise advised by the Principal.
  6. Girls may wear one pair of small post earring.
  7. Boys are not allowed to wear earrings.
  8. No face painting.
  9. No facial hair.  Boys should be clean shaven.
  10. Boys are not permitted to have hair that extends beyond the top of the collar of the dress shirt.
  11. Boys and girls are expected to wear navy or black flat oxford shoes with the dress uniform.  Clogs or backless shoes are never permitted since this is a safety concern.

School Uniform – Boys

Winter Uniform – worn from October 15th through April 30th:

Navy dress trousers (no corduroys, dockers or baggies), white cotton oxford dress shirt (long or short sleeves), with a plaid uniform tie or the official uniform white turtle-neck shirt.  A red school sweater (cardigan, pullover or sweater vest must be worn every day with the winter uniform.  Boys must wear black, navy or gray dress sock with black shoes.  No sneaker-type shoes or boots are permitted.

Warm Weather Uniform – worn in September through October 14th, then May and June:

Navy walking shorts can be worn with the white 3 buttoned polo style collared short sleeved shirt.  Plain white or black sneakers are to be worn with plain  3 inch high crew socks for the warm weather uniform.

School Uniform – Girls

Winter Uniform – worn from October 15th through April 30th:

Red and navy plaid jumper (Grades K – 5), red and navy plaid skirt (Grades 6 – 8), or navy blue slacks,  white uniform blouse with peter pan collar and cross-over ties, or official uniform white turtle-neck shirt, red sweater and red, white or navy knee socks or tights.

All girls must wear red, white or navy knee high socks or tights, black or navy shoes.  Sneaker –type shoes are not permitted; no high top shoes or boots are allowed.  No jewelry is permitted.  No make up is allowed and only clear nail polish is permitted.

Warm Weather Uniform – worn in September through Oct. 14th, then May and June:

Red and navy plaid or navy blue walking shorts or skorts, white polo shirt, and plain white sneakers with white crew socks.

Personal Appearance

A good personal hygiene routine should be followed daily: ears, neck, and fingernails should be given special attention.  When appropriate, children should be instructed in the use of deodorant.

Uniforms should be neat, clean and pressed.

Hair should be clean and well groomed.  The boys’ hair should not be below the shirt collar.  Bangs should not be so long that they impede vision.

Parents will be notified if a child comes to school consistently in an unkempt manner.  If no improvement is noticed within a reasonable amount of time, an appointment with the parents and with the Principal will be made.
